Camp Update!

What have we been doing?

Enjoying the the beautiful blue skies, warm sunny days, bike riding, finding the few ripe wild blueberries waiting for the many, finding again the wonder of writing letters and the excitement of getting mail, making new friends, playing volleyball, digging in the sand, traversing our way through a new community, making new connections, laughing so very hard at a movie night, finding dead fish and living ones, dead cicadas and living ones, dead dragonflies and living ones, eating ice cream on ice cream night, swimming.

  1. First, can I just say, you are taking some great pictures!!! Owen and I can't get enough. And he is so jealous. He keeps saying, "go there! go there! go there!" It just looks like so much fun and how wonderful to spend your days just exploring around outside. Having all that right outside your door. I just can't imagine anything better. Have you ever read My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell? It is his memoir about growing up on Corfu and how he developed his love for the outdoors and all its inhabitants. It was my dream childhood. I hope things start to fall into place for you in terms of finding a community and some people to hang out with. Should've figured that a lot of the adults up there would be academics who have babysitters/nannies etc. Totally know what you mean about feeling like an underachiever. Just remember that you are not! We all work and no one's work is any more/less valuable than anyone else's. At some points during our life we may work in an office, in a field, at home. At some points we may make a lot of money; at some points we may not make any. The important thing, I think, is that the work you take on is something that you can look back on with fondness and pride when you are an old lady sitting in your rocking chair on your front porch. And I have no doubt that that is how you will look back on these years.

  2. Thanks for the reading suggestion! I do feel pretty darn lucky to be here and we are starting to feel the camp groove which feels nice. And it's true, thanks for the reminder, we are all working. I hate those moments where self doubt wins or at least temporarily takes over, alas it has taken a back seat for the moment :) Big hugs to your awesome family and thanks for the comment!
